Our client is a German family-owned company and a leading manufacturer (a typical German “Hidden Champion”) of tools and instruments used in the building and construction industry. They didn´t sell their products in China but many trading companies in China are importing their products from Germany and sell them in China without their authorization. Now they have decided to develop the Chinese market and are looking for an experienced Sales Manager to be responsible for China and Southeast Asia.

About this job:



  • Achieve new business growth online (e-commerce) and offline (to distributors in construction industry) in line with agreed budgets and targets
  • Develop new customers and maintain/develop existing accounts
  • Understand the technical applications of our products well and can advise the selection and usage to customers.
  • Develop strong working relationships, externally with customers and internally with HQ in Germany and with the mother companies’ JV factory in China
  • Ensure accuracy of customer database
  • Manage local warehouse inventory, orders from Germany and Chinese JV
  • Confirm warranty validity to customer in case of potential claims
  • Undertake domestic travel in China, regular travels to Germany (~once a year) and to nearby South East Asian countries (on demand base, ~ 1-2 a year, e.g. Taiwan)
  • Solid technical backgrounds, proven either by education (academic or vocational training in related fields) or by career paths / work experience
  • At least 5 years work experience in Sales, preferably for a German family owned company in China, preferably also with experience managing e-commerce (sales via internet, e.g. Alibaba)
  • Proven success in selling technical products requiring explanations and advise/consulting, preferably with measuring instruments or tools
  • Experience and success in building and maintaining relationships with customers, especially with distributors in building and construction industry in China
  • Understand Chinese and European/German cultures as well as selling/business practices, and feel comfortable in both cultures
  • Fluent in English, German will be a plus, but not a requirement
  • Display energetic and self-motivated approach with a disciplined and professional approach to all tasks
  • Willingness and the ability to be “hands-on” with our measuring instruments, e.g. to demonstrate how to use our products to customers.
