About the Company

Our client is a German Global Player and one of the leading providers of explosion protection and other highly-advanced safety technologies to meet highest HSE standards for various large-scale manufacturing industries. To strengthen its growing activities in China, our client is searching for a highly-qualified and experienced “Managing Director China” which can further boost sales and develop the business for immediate assignment. The entity in Shanghai employs ~110 FTEs and generates a turnover between 100 and 150 Mio RMB per year.

Job Description

The Managing Director will provide operational and strategic leadership to secure the profitable growth of the business entities in China following corporate guidelines. Ideally the successful candidate should have a strong background and network in related application industries.

Key responsibilities will include the following fields:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to achieve the defined sales targets
  • Expand the company’s customer base in China
  • Build-up strong relationships to top clients, SOE’s and private organizations (foreign and Chinese)
  • Establish an efficient and sustainable sales organization
  • Intensify relations to existing and new end-users; this includes sales and business development, customer service and engineering support
  • Develop long-term sales strategies to further strengthen and expand market position in China and grow the business in the assigned region through the acquisition of new customers in relevant industries
  • Constantly monitor the business and the market to anticipate problematic situations and critical business development opportunities, as well as take actions to provide solutions in order to ensure the companies sustainable growth
  • Secure financial targets through achievement of the annual order intake, sales, cost base and EBITDA targets
  • Manage the costs of the region (full P&L responsibility) and achieve the defined cost-saving targets
  • Oversee, manage and monitor the companies financial performance, investments and other business activities and flag deviations from the plan in time and to the respective corporate department and function
  • Management of projects including the conception of customized technical solutions, the management of internal project processes and the supervision of the project implementation
  • Be the legal representative of the company in front of customers, legal bodies, business partners and other stakeholders

Communication and Business Behavior

  • Communicate and align closely with corporate headquarters in Europe, including regular, conclusive and timely reporting as required and defined by headquarters
  • In particular, review reports provided by the local leadership teams and take measures as required (reward performance, prevent critical issues and resolve problems) to ensure the accuracy of the forecast provided
  • Ensure the company’s policies and legal guidelines are communicated all the way down to the teams and ensure full compliance at all times
  • Ensure full legal and ethical compliance and conduct of business at all times and under all circumstances

Management and Social Competence

  • Delegate responsibilities as appropriate and supervise the work of the assigned staff by providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance
  • Manage, assess, coach and develop assigned staff
  • Initiate disciplinary actions as appropriate and after consultation with corporate HR

The Successful Applicant

  • Strong sales skills
  • Exceptional leadership skills and an instinct for business and management; capable of leveraging his/ her business acumen
  • Western-European & entrepreneurial mind-set and business approach to further strengthen and expand the business across China
  • Strong intercultural competence and experienced in working for foreign companies in China
  • Age: 40 to 55
  • Nationality: Chinese national preferred, foreigners with fluent Chinese skills will also be considered
  • Education: University degree in either business or engineering
  • Languages: Chinese (fluent in speaking and writing), English (fluent in speaking and writing)
